våbenskjold

Søndergade ends at "Storetorv"(Grand Market).

On the corner we find "Redergården"(The Shipping Yard). It's named after ship owner Jørgen Bruhn(died 1858), but the house is older, as it's constructed for Niels Thomsen in 1785-87. During WWII it was turned into headquarters for "Ortskommandantur Rennbahn", the local headquarters of the German Wehrmacht, after its original seat, Clausen's Inn on the other side of the market, was burnt December 14th 1942 by accident.

A short trip down Vestergade to Ries' Dye Works(now the employment center) to show an example of a building from the time of the early industrialization. The street wing was built before 1744, but that can hardly be guessed from the appearance today. The dye wordks closed down in 1921.
But we are going the othe way from the market: "Skibbrogade"(Docks Street).
