våbenskjold

The town hall has acquired a formidable position: on the summit of a hill at the center of the main street and with a vista brought about by opposing street break.

The last part though was unknown to the architect, C. F. Hansen, since he finished the town hall in 1831 and the street opposite became a reality only in 1870. Hansen didn't enjoy the assignment, since he was recquired to use the materials from the obsolete spa Frederikslyst. During Medieval times this was where "Kalentehuset" lay and the street was called "Langegade"(Long Street). Kalentehuset is where the clergy met to settle the going rates of services and divide the alms - at a banquet. So in reality it was their feast house for their monthly gathering.
We turn right along "Storegade"(Grand Street).
