våbenskjold

Usual procedure for numbering along streets in Denmark is radially from a central point(typically the market). In the case of Aabenraa another focus has been chosen: the northeastern limits of the old town. This is why the succcessive streets Storegade-Ramsherred-Nørreport are numbered the "wrong way round".

Nearly neighbour to the town hall is Marcussen's Yard in no. 24.

This is where the organbuilder company Marcussen and Son started in 1856.

Just before St. Pottergade we find the merchant C. A. W. Bode's yard. He was admitted to the city council backed by only 16 votes in 1873 as the only councillor sympathetic to the Danes(although he like all other coucillors was German), because the Danish decided to boycot the elections. The result was revoked because mayor Albrecht von Koch had rejected the election of another candidate backed by 159 votes. Bode did enter the council though at a later election.
Here the street changes name to Ramsherred.
