våbenskjold

Halfway up Skibbrogade we turn right along "Gildegade"(Guild Street). The western side(facing Storegade) follows the boundary of the vanished cementary of St. Canute's Church. This might explain the name as the oldest guild in many Danish towns were in honour of St. Canute King. The street is heavily influenced by it being at the back of the merchants' yards in Storegade.

These merchants used the street for small rental biuldings like nos. 6-8. They were built for Claus Berthelsen in 1759. On the other side nos. 11-13 was built for the same purpose for councillor Jürgen Iwersen in 1754-55.

On the same side we also find(in no. 5) the birth place of Jens Peter Junggreen. He was the initiator of the Linguistic Association in 1880 maing him one of Danish leaders. The building was erected for turner Casper Nissen in 1780.
At the end of the street we turn left along "Rådhusgade"(Town Hall Street).
