våbenskjold

Where we cross "Vestergade"(Western Street) the bishop's castle Opnørhus lay in Medieval times. Margareth of Denmark(regent and queen dowager og Norway) acquired both town and castle in 1404 only to have the castle torn down and Brundlund built instead.

The last house on Nygade is the no. 70, built for Niels Hansen in 1745.

On the other side of Vestergade Nygade is continued by "Nybro"(Newbridge) named so because a bridge here lead across the moat circling Opnørhus. No. 14 is merchant Nicolay Nissen's yard.

But when built in 1705 it was for bailiff Hinrich von Günderoth.
The boundary between the town and the shire crossed the street here.

No. 20 from around 1800 is another preserved house.
We have reached "Slotsgade"(Palace Street).
