We have departed from the old city center and approach Chinatown, which wasn't incorporated into the town until 1889.

The first house on the odd side of "Haderslevvej"(Haderslev Road, formerly "Nr. Chaussée" - Northern Highway) is the former civil court, now Civil Defence Barracks.

This is the neighbourhood of the higher bourgeoisie from around 1900 AD, which is highlighted by a look up "Karpedam"(Carp Pond). Here's nos. 16-12.
We proceed up Haderslevvej.

With time also rental homes crept in. To diminish there appearance, they too were built looking like villaes. Nos 20-22 from 1898-1900 are known as "Kommodehusene"(Drawers Houses).

The name Chinatown the area acquired because the first house to be erected here were built by returning captains of the East Asian trade. These houses were the nos. 46-50 the former of which built around 1875 wearing the name "Haus Ormunde"(House of Ormunde - the name of the first owner) is portrayed here.
We return along Haderslevvej.
